The list of destinations and guides I have listed are without a doubt the very best I have experienced in my travels. To reach this list I have a strict set of requirements that each guide must achieve before I put my name to them. Such things as experience, local knowledge, fishing techniques, equipment, safety, insurance and past successes all make up part of the criteria. These guides are of the highest integrity and I know will ensure you have a fishing adventure of a lifetime. I have fished with all of them personally and have had some amazing fishing experiences that I will never forget. These guys are the best of the best and worth a look. Cheers, Mark Berg
Clearwater Lodge, Melville Island, Darwin – I must admit this is one place I just love to visit time after time and for good reason. Not only do you have outstanding estuary fishing for Barramundi, Mangrove Jacks and big Threadfin Salmon but the blue water action can be awesome with acres of Spaniards, Long tail Tuna, Queen fish, Trevally and all the reef species you would expect. To top it off no lodge in the country has better food. That’s a big call but believe me when I say that the food is simply outstanding. It puts most top Sydney Seafood restaurants to shame. Ask the guys to make up some fresh chili mud crabs – it will blow you away. For more info on Clearwater Lodge click on the link – www.clearwaterislandlodge.com.au
Nomad Sport fishing Adventures QLD – These guys are at the top of the food chain when it comes to Sport Fishing in this country. Damon and his team run a slick operation with great food, comfortable accommodation and very good service on board the mother ship – however it’s the extremely remote locations they travel to that give them the edge and the outstanding results. Some of the fish these guys encounter are ridiculous. 100kg + Dogtooth Tuna, 50kg + Giant Trevally, 20kg + Coral trout, 50kg + Wahoo and enormous Marlin to name a few. The crazy thing is that all these massive beasts are in plague proportions so you catch them all day, everyday. Aussie Fish Estuary Adventures NSW – I have never in my travels met a keener angler than Stuart Hindson. Situated near Narooma on the South Coast of NSW, this bloke is a mad keen fisho that’s also an awesome guide. Not all good fishermen make good guides but Stuie is the exception. Not only is he a talented soft plastics man he will find the fish come hell or high water. If a tranquil estuary system with spectacular scenery and monster Flathead is you idea of a dream fishing adventure, Stuart is your man. With many other species on offer like Bream, Trevally, Salmon, Tailor and Estuary Perch a day on the water with Stuie is normally a great days fishing. Check out the link – www.ausfishing.com.au
Bamuruu Plains in the Northern Territory – This destination is part of the Wild Bush Luxury group of properties sprinkled around the country. This place is simply stunning. It’s without doubt 5 star bush luxury. The food is amazing and would put most top Sydney restaurants to shame, the accommodation is quirky and unique and the fishing in the fresh water lagoons right out the front of the lodge is awesome. With Buffalo roaming around you and hundreds of birds sprinkling the sky it’s an incredible backdrop to some brilliant Barra fishing. Fishing with surface lures and watching Barra smashing them at your feet is very cool. We caught over 100 Barra in 3 days! This is also a great place to bring your partner for a relaxing break – www.bamurruplains.com
Ocean Blue Sportfishing – Vanuatu – This place is a true paradise and only 3 Hours from Sydney. With massive Dog tooth Tuna, GT’s, Wahoo and Marlin just to name a few the species list is endless. The Tree’s and Fishes lodge is right on the water with amazing views, very nice food and comfortable bungalows. I loved it so much I took my family back two weeks later. For an adventure you will remember your whole life you have to put these guys on your bucket list – www.oceanbluefishing.com/2011/vanuatu/
Albany Island – Queensland – I have been to Albany Island 5 times now because its just so nice and the fishing is superb. We have caught plenty of GT’s, Spanish macks, Coral trout and the Long Tail tuna sessions are simply amazing when they are going off. The lodge is fully renovated with air-conditioned rooms, excellent food and a great team of people running the place. I can’t wait to go back. – www.cyfishingcharters.com.au
